Lichess to FIDE rating converter

Fairly accurate for me, but assuming a linear trend is a possible mistake. From what I can tell this will become less accurate with higher ratings. Lichess ratings are higher than FIDE, but less so for higher ratings.
This tool seems way, way off in its estimates. I've tried this for a few players from my club who have known FIDE ratings:

Actual FIDE rating -> FIDE rating according to this tool
2136 -> 1810
2001 -> 1777
2396 -> 2085
2221 -> 1954

But as I've been saying for years: trying to convert ratings from different rating pools makes no sense whatsoever. Ratings are only meaningful within the rating pool they are measured in.
@Molurus Thank you very much for the detailed response! That sort of information is exactly what I was looking for.
The reason I am trying to figure this out is because I am trying to reach FM, and I want to know what kind of rating I need on lichess before entering FIDE is worth my time.
"Translating" ratings can be done in my opinion. However in this case the data set is heavily flawed.

There are a lot of young players on this site (especially from India) that have ratings listed far below their actual skilllevel. This may be due to them not updating the number after receiving a new rating or due to FIDE rating not following their development due to the pandemic.

As a result the ratings the calculator gives are far below what they should be. This way the tool is - unfortunately - useless.

Some thoughts...

I would not judge whether it is worth your time based on your lichess rating... OTB is a very different format than online blitz. I feel there are some things you will learn playing OTB that you will not learn online. If you don't play OTB, you can almost certainly assume that the OTB players with similar lichess ratings will be better than you in that format.

Whether or not it is worth your time also shouldn't be based on some artificial title that is not relevant to your day to day life anyways. It really doesn't matter if you are GM, IM, FM, CM, LM, correspondence GM, international arbiter, WCM, First Woodpusher of Notingham Youth Club or any other title unless you plan to pursue that path professionally. In the event you want to make a career out of it then I don't think FM matters and if you are not already FM I would suggest another career path anyways unless you intend to make your money from things aside from actually playing.

EDIT: Just adding that I was underrated by 200 points on that site relative to my OTB rating as well.
