a). Slavery’s not really unique to any area.
b). Slavery has historically varied in terms of badness. Ancient Roman slaves could do quite well for themselves, even compared to non-slaves. North American slavery was bad, but West Indies slavery was worse.
c). Slavery is not usually a state-generated phenomenon.
Because of these facts, I’d appreciate some elaboration from those people who said “slavery”. Why was your country’s institution of slavery particularly bad? Why do you associate it with your country?
