Quitting games right from the start

I'm pretty tired of people constantly abandoning their games right from the start and then all they get is a warning from Lichess that they're threatened with temporary exclusion.

If someone doesn't want to play, then their game should be counted as lost in my opinion! Period.
no arguments, but thumbs down. no comment.
the main purpose of ratings is to estimate playing strength. they are not a tool to punish bad behaviour or encourage good behaviour. your idea would mean that the estimate of playing strength would be worse.
... and the result of a game in which someone quits at the start is a loss in any case for any purposes other than rating adjustment. In the tournament cross-table, the game is a win for the other player.

when somebody leaves right from the start, then somebody is not willing to play, mostly because he doesnt like the opening from the white side. but if he likes the opening from his opponent then its okay for his rating and comparing or estimating ratings is okay... ?

in tournament play, rules are pretty clear, if you leave or dont start, the result is a loss, which means you lose rating points. simple as that.

You don't lose rating points in tournaments here either for games which you don't start.

I think that ties in with most over-the-board events too, but this may be up to the local rating organisations. If players gain rating points from rounds where their opponent doesn't even turn up, that makes the rating system less accurate for its purpose.

simple as that? well, maybe not quite as simple.

> 5.1 Whether these occur because of forfeiture or any other reason, they are not counted. Except in case of force majeure, any game where both players have made at least one move will be rated, unless the regulations relating to Fair Play require otherwise.

I agree with OP if people new that not moving counted as a loss they would no longer do it . Or the banning should come in quicker .
@skystalker 1) you don't see when the banning comes, so how can you claim it should be quicker
2) even if people know they would lose rating, it sometimes happens by accident or disconnect
