Amazing Draws

In this blog we will look at some amazing draws.

This is unwinnable for white because of the 50 move rule. If there was no 50 move rule, white would eventually win the game. Therefore the game is a draw. If this was a real game white must have been sad.

This game is also a draw, because black can never get a win. The bishob will always block the checkmate, and eventually it will be a draw, unless black blunders.

Even though white has six pawns and a king, against a king, the game will end up in a draw. In fact to understand these draws better check out this study:

  4. https://lichess.org/analysis/8/8/4k3/1p2p2p/pP2P2P/P3K3/8/8_w_-_-_2_2
This will also be a draw, and find out why in the study listed above.

    Insufficient Material Draws

  5. https://lichess.org/analysis/8/6k1/8/8/8/4NN2/4K3/8_w_-_-_0_1
This draw is called an insufficient material draw. It is impossible to win with 2 knights, unless your opponent blunders.

  6. https://lichess.org/analysis/8/8/8/3k4/8/8/4KB2/8_w_-_-_0_1
This is also an insufficient material draw. Checkmating with a bishop is impossible.
One cool thing is I applied this knowledge into this game:

    https://lichess.org/dFPv1eTo77mW
. I offered him a pawn and he took it, knowing it would be a draw. If he just premoved instead of taking the pawn, I would have ran out of time. This is one reason why knowing these draws might be helpful.

Hopefully you liked this blog post, and you learned something new. Thanks for reading.
